English Literature & Language KS2
In Key Stage 2 English Literature and Language lessons I intend to study a novel suitable for the age group, which allows for differentiation according to the children’s needs. The course this year will be looking at a classic novel: ‘Goodnight Mr Tom’ by Michelle Magorian. I will also be teaching the children about English grammar, punctuation and spelling. They will be encouraged to focus on the way in which authors create setting, character, plot and atmosphere, while also looking at practical skills in writing their own fiction and nonfiction texts. We will be studying different genres of writing alongside the study of the novel and practising their basic English language skills.
‘Goodnight Mr. Tom’ is a poignant yet unsentimental tale of an abused young boy and an elderly man who shelters him as an evacuee during World War II. The slow evolution of their mutual affection creates a compelling narrative that captivates the reader. The well-crafted characters and vivid depictions of a World War II era English village breathe life into the story. The precise historical context is seamlessly woven into the narrative. The following session on History will follow from this session.
Day: Monday
Time: 13:15 - 14:15
Age group: 8-11
