GCSE Classical Civilisation
On Tuesday mornings join me to discover the magic of the Classical World. Why does Greek and Roman mythology remain so popular today? Why is the hero Odysseus such an interesting character? What was it like to watch a gladiatorial fight? Why was the Roman army so successful?
In following this two year course you will be guided by me to a greater understanding of such issues. We will begin with looking at the Greek and Roman gods, and the stories and beliefs associated with them. We will be learning about the great heroes, the temples of Athens and Rome, the foundation myths, the festivals and the journey to the Underworld.
In the second year of our studies we will be looking at Literature and Culture, where we will choose one of three options. The choice is between: The Homeric World, Roman City Life and War & Warfare.
I have both a B. A. and an M.A in Classics and I have taught GCSE and A Level for over 15 years. Mythology is, and has always been, my first love and I believe I can inspire young people to be fascinated by this subject which includes History, Art and Literature all rolled into one!
